Not Back-to-School Week!

ree

This week my children didn’t go back to school.

They didn’t put on a uniform.

Get on a school bus.

Or pack a gym bag

There’ll be no bell to tell them when to play.

No headmaster telling them how to be.

No teacher deciding what to learn.

They won’t be tested. Except for when they test themselves.

They won’t be graded, classed, streamed, assessed or judged.

Nor marked, ranked, reviewed or appraised.

They’ll mix with little people and big, no limit of age.

They’ll spend time getting to know themselves.

Their gifts, intuition, limitations, and likes.

Their preferences, talents, resilience and fears.

They’ll get to follow their interests.

Wherever those may lead.

Their curiosity will be respected and fuelled, never ridiculed or dampened.

They’ll go deep with science and bugs, art and games, cooking and craft, films and books.

They won’t be taught.

But they will learn.

Including the best life lesson of all:

How to learn, live, and love – all from the inside out.
